The AVCE Research and Development cell hosted the science carnival 'Sciento 2K16' in collaboration with ISRO, Nuclear power corporation of India ( NPCIL ), Indian Rare Earths limited, IEEE ADSCAF and Tata Ion on the 15th and 16th of July 2016. School students from Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts participated in the event and showcased their innate talents. Mr. S. Anandan, Senior Scientist, Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project inaugurated the carnival on 15.07.2016 and formally opened the science exhibition on the theme "Science for Our Future".
Students of Std. VI,VII,VII,IX,XI from schools in Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts exhibited their projects . Around 1200 students from various schools visited the exhibition . Top three exhibits in each standard were awarded prizes.
Quiz competition for Std. XI students on the topic "Fundamentals of Science" took place on 15.07.2016. Twenty four teams from various schools participated. In the final round with six teams, Carmel Higher Secondary School, Nagercoil won first and third prizes, Vivekananda Kendra Higher Secondary School won the second prize.
Essay competition for Std. IX students on the topic "Green Energy", both in English and Tamil was held on 16.07.2016. In English, Vivekananda Kendra Matric Higher Secondary School, V.K.P Higher Secondary school, Gnana Deepam Higher Secondary school won the first, second and third prizes respectively. In Tamil, Vivekananda Kendra Matric Higher Secondary School won the first and second prizes, Gnana Deepam Matric Higher Secondary school won the third prize.
On 16.07.2016 Mr. R. Ramdoss, Senior Scientist, Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project , delivered the valedictory address and gave away the prizes.
During the occasion the second solar tricycle, a modified version with additional facilities of the earlier one designed and developed by Annai Vailankanni College of Engineering students was launched by Mr. Rubert Jothi, Deputy Director, Fisheries Department, Kanyakumari district on 15.07.2016.
