Young Minds 2016 Quiz competition held at AVCE for school students

Young Minds 2016, a mega quiz contest was organized by Annai Vailankanni College of Engineering to bring out the talents of school students. Questions for the contest were asked from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry syllabi for stds XI and XII and current affairs. More than 10000 students from various schools in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts participated in the preliminary round of the contest. Three students in standards XI and XII respectively from each school were selected for the second round.

The second and the final rounds were conducted in the college on 27.10.2016. Mr. D. Peter Jesudhas, the Founder Chairman of our college presided over the function. In his presidential address, he told the students about the importance of quiz programmes and science exhibitions for enriching their knowledge. Morever, the Science Carnival and Quiz Programme conducted by the college would be an annual feature hereafter. Mr. P.Natarajan, DEO, Nagercoil Educational District, the guest of honour delivered the inaugural address. He stressed the importance of hardwork and the role of quiz programmes in enhancing the knowledge of the students. As part of the programme, career guidance was given to the students by Dr. S. Somasundaram, Media Educationalist. He explained in detail the various courses available to the students and how they should select subject and institution.

Among the 732 students who participaed in the second round of the contest, 6 teams of 3 students in each team were selected for the final round for Std XI and Std XII categories. The final round of the competition was conducted separately for Std XI and Std XII by  Mr. S. Anandhan, Senior Scientist, Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant at 1.15 p.m.

    The valedictory function was held at 2.45 p.m. The chief guest Mr. S. Austin M.L.A, Kanyakumari constituency appreciated the college management for the efforts taken to conduct the quiz programme. He told the students that their future would be decided by their performance at the higher secondary level. He gave away the prizes, cash awards amounting to Rs.20000/- (Rs.5000, Rs.3000 and Rs.2000, for the first, the second and the third places for Stds XI and XII respectively) and shields to the winners.

    In Std XI category, Atomic Energy Higher Secondary School - Chettikulam Township, Mother Teresa Matric. Hr. Sec. School – Mylodu and St. Ignotius Hr. Sec. School – Kurumbanai won the first, the second and the third prizes respectively.

    In Std XII category, Mother Teresa Matric. Hr. Sec. School – Mylodu, Vivekananda Kendra Vidhyalaya Hr. Sec. School – Kanyakumari and S.N.M. Hindu Vidhyalaya Matric Hr. Sec. School – Nagercoil won the first, the second and the third prizes respectively.

    The prize distribution was followed by cultural performance by school students and students of Annai Vailankanni College of Engineering.
