30th July 2026
A guest lecture on “IoT Applications in Mechanical
Engineering” was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 30th
July 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Bosch Lab, with the objective of introducing
students to the growing role of the Internet of Things (IoT) in modern mechanical
engineering and manufacturing. The session was delivered by Er. M. Chandran,
Project Manager, Infant Technology, Nagercoil, and was attended by students
from the II, III, and IV Year Mechanical Engineering programmes. The lecture
covered the fundamentals and architecture of IoT, sensors and connectivity,
real-time monitoring, automation, smart manufacturing, predictive maintenance,
and Industry 4.0. The resource person shared practical insights and industrial
examples demonstrating how connected sensors and intelligent systems can
improve machine performance, monitor equipment conditions, optimize production
processes, and support data-driven decision-making. Students gained an
understanding of the integration of IoT, mechanical systems, sensors, automation,
and digital technologies, along with insights into emerging industrial
applications and career opportunities. The interactive session encouraged
students to explore IoT-based projects and innovative solutions for real-world
engineering challenges. The programme successfully bridged the gap between
academic concepts and industrial practices, enhanced students’ technical and
industrial awareness, and motivated them to develop skills relevant to Smart
Manufacturing, Industrial Automation, Predictive Maintenance, IoT, and Industry
4.0.
