"Learn How to Learn" FDP program held at AVCE

A two day workshop on “Learn How to Learn” was conducted at Annai Vailankanni College of Engineering on 9th and 10th June 2017. The workshop was arranged to provide an opportunity to the faculty members to acquaint themselves with new teaching methodology relevant to the current scenario and thereby enhance their teaching skills. Development, Ms. Revathy Balakrishnan and Mr. Priya Anand, Soft skill trainers of SRM University served as the resource persons. The Workshop was inaugurated by Mr. D. Peter Jesudhas, the Chairman of AVCE. In his address he stressed the importance of updating knowledge on the subject to be taught, failing which the teacher would become outdated.

In her keynote address Dr. Mythili pointed out that the teacher should follow three essential components of teaching namely knowledge of subject matter, practical communication and attitude which comprises of environment, education and experience.

Ms. Revathy Balakrishnan stressed the need for motivating the students to develop them hard as well as soft skills. According to her the class room teaching should be based on SHAPE, S for stories, H for humour, A for activities, P for presentation skill, and E for real time examples. She also emphasized the importance of self evaluation on the part of the teacher and guided the teacher as to how they should evaluate themselves.

Mr. Priya Anand explained in detail as how teacher can acquire knowledge skill and attitude. Teacher should be proactive and follow it win – win approach. Also they should follow alternative teaching methodology using questionnaire, Pro and con grid, debates, guided analysis and case studies. The student is essentially a worker and it is the responsibility of the teacher to assign him the task.
